The Euregio Museum Day is an annual meeting and exchange of ideas between museum operators from Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino, who take it in turns to host the event. As part of the Trentino Presidency of the Euregio, it was the Autonomous Province of Trento that hosted the 2023 edition today, organised by the PAT's Cultural Activities and Production Service in collaboration with the METS-Trentino San Michele Ethnographic Museum and the Santa Chiara Cultural Services Centre of Trento.
The day, which was held at the Fondazione Mach in San Michele all'Adige, saw numerous museums of the Euregio question themselves on how to refine sustainability indicators, in order to set up an effective strategy in terms of both the budget and the planning tools for the activities implemented.
The aim of this first participatory phase is to test and exchange information so that the museums of the Euregio can equip themselves with shared methods and approaches in the way they approach museum planning and reporting, both internal and public.
The institutional greetings were opened by video messages from the presidents of the three territories, including the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento and of the Euregio, who emphasised the added value of working together in the museum field. The day was coordinated by the director of the Cultural Production Service of the Autonomous Province of Trento and the general secretary of the Euregio.
Also present were the general manager of the Superintendence for Cultural Heritage and Activities of PAT and the provincial councillor for culture, who pointed out that the three territories have always invested in culture and are able, together, to face the challenge of sustainable development in the Alps starting from the cultural and museum sphere, which represents an asset for the communities.
The first part of the morning saw the participation of two authoritative speakers: remotely, the founder of Ki Culture, an international non-profit organisation committed to uniting culture and sustainability and secretary of the Working Group on Sustainability of ICOM (International Council of Museums) and, in attendance, the coordinator of ICOM Italy for the Piedmont Region, a researcher in the field of the science of sustainability of cultural heritage. The second part of the morning was instead dedicated to a talk among the directors of some museums of the three territories coordinated by the director of MUSE - Science Museum of Trento and president of ICOM Italy.
