With the parade through the streets of Borgo Valsugana, the flag-raising and the lighting of the torch in Piazza Degasperi, the 'International Student Firemen's Competition' officially kicked off last night, on stage until Sunday in the centre of Borgo Valsugana. A colourful and festive tide invaded the centre of Borgo Valsugana in a riot of different languages and traditions, but with the common thread of passion for the world of volunteer firefighters and related sports disciplines. 768 girls and boys between the ages of 10 and 16, representing 70 teams from 22 nations (including from as far away as Japan, testifying to the importance of the event), took part in what are in fact true 'Olympics'. This number rises to 900 if we also consider accompanying persons and delegates, and to 1,000 if we include delegation leaders, competition judges and members of the International Commission CTIF, the International Technical Committee for Fire Prevention and Extinction.
