Description
112 (one-one-two) is the official telephone number for contacting emergency services within the European Union. It is a unique and free service, accessible even without a SIM or credit card or while the phone is locked, to urgently request the intervention of the police, fire brigade, medical assistance or sea rescue.
Currently in Italy, the NUE 112 service is active in 16 Regions, with 24 Single Response Centres (CUR) located throughout the country.
In Trentino, the NUE service has been active since June 2017. Since that date, 112 calls from the entire provincial territory have been forwarded to the Trento CUR. The operators at the centre, specially trained to handle the first response to the call, are then responsible for locating, identifying the nature of the emergency and forwarding only the emergencies to the Territorial Authorities responsible for managing these situations: Fire Brigade, Trentino Emergenza, Carabinieri, State Police, Coast Guard (competent only for Lake Garda).
For the 5 municipalities of Primiero, the toll-free number 800.112.000 was also activated in 2021. This exception became necessary due to problems with the routing of the telephone network. By dialling 112 from that area of Trentino, calls are in fact routed to the Carabinieri in Feltre and not to the CUR in Trento.
The service is also accessible to foreign language speakers through a conference with an interpreter. There are currently 38 languages available at the Trento CUR, plus others that can be activated on request.
