With 632 applications submitted for over EUR 100 million in investments, against contributions of around EUR 37 million, the ERDF Notice for photovoltaics has attracted considerable interest from small, medium and even large enterprises, driven also by rising energy bills, which have made it increasingly convenient and desirable to switch to more sustainable energy sources. The main objective of the initiative, promoted by thecouncillor for economic development, work, university and research Achille Spinelli, is to encourage the production of energy from renewable sources through the installation of photovoltaic systems.
"With the 'Investment in photovoltaic systems' notice," explains councillor Spinelli, "we have seen an extraordinary response from Trentino companies, demonstrating a tangible interest and commitment in the transition towards more sustainable energy sources. This initiative not only offers businesses the opportunity to reduce their energy bills, but also contributes significantly to our mission of promoting a greener and more environmentally friendly economy. The large number of applications submitted and the total capacity of photovoltaic systems installed so far testify to the success and relevance of the call. With the support of European resources and of the province itself, Trentino continues to prove itself a leader in the adoption and development of renewable energy, ready to face the challenges of the ecological transition."
The numbers
The initiative aims to support increased production from renewable sources, both for self-consumption by individual production units and for the sharing of renewable electricity produced by renewable energy communities.
During the opening period of the notice (4 July 2022 - 31 January 2024) small, medium and large enterprises submitted 632 applications - by the end of February, 486 had been granted. In particular, 335 applications were financed through European ERDF funds, with a contribution of more than EUR 21 million. The remaining 151 applications received financing from provincial funds, with a total of EUR 6.8 million in contributions granted. The total peak power of the photovoltaic plants realised so far is about 14.5 MW (megawatts). In concrete terms, this means being able to simultaneously power, for example, 7000 electric ovens in the home.

The investment in photovoltaic systems represented a solid opportunity for Trentino companies to reduce their energy bills and actively contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly economy. With the support of local institutions and the enthusiasm of entrepreneurs, the Autonomous Province of Trento has once again confirmed itself as an area at the forefront of the renewable energy sector, ready to seize the challenges and opportunities of the future.
