Description
The pro loco associations constitute, in their relationship with the municipalities' administrations, reference associations for the coordination and planning of activities for the tourist enhancement of the territory, its resources and its products.
They perform activities of
- enhancement of the natural, cultural and historical resources of the locality
- tourist entertainment of a local nature such as initiatives of tourist, recreational, sporting and cultural interest
- other activities of a local nature aimed at fostering the development of the culture of welcoming tourists.
In order to be able to operate for tourism purposes and receive public funding for their activities, the pro loco must be registered on the appropriate provincial list established by the provincial department responsible for tourism.

Entry on the list of pro loco associations
Pro loco associations that meet the following requirements may apply for inclusion in the list
- the statute foresees among the social aims of the association the contribution to the valorisation of the territory, of its resources and of its products;
- the association's sphere of operation is the entire territory of a municipality or a part thereof and no other listed association operates in the same area.
Removal from the list of pro loco associations
The director of the provincial service responsible for tourism can order the cancellation from the respective lists of the pro loco association if he ascertains
- the supervening loss of one of the requirements provided for by the regulations in force (DPP 18-139/Leg 2003 - Article 10 bis, paragraph 1)
- the non-observance of provisions of the by-laws by the pro loco associations registered in the special list
- the failure of the pro loco associations to send the minutes of their meetings within 30 days.
