Description
Contracts are being executed between Infratel and the telecommunications operators identified following the national award procedure.
1 Gbps Italy Plan (implementer TIM-Fibercop)
The national call for tenders incentivises the construction of ultra-broadband network infrastructures capable of guaranteeing transmission speeds of at least 1 Gbps by 2026, connecting the building blocks in which no network capable of providing download speeds of at least 300 Mbps in the peak hour of traffic is present and is not planned within the next five years. The PNRR interventions supplement the current infrastructural coverage of the territory with reference to property units in grey areas that are not reached by the envisaged level of connectivity.
The Autonomous Province of Trento is included in lot no. 15 with the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, awarded on 28 June 2022 after an initial non-allocation. The lot provides for the connection of 23,200 homes in Trentino.
Subsequent inspections revealed a lower number of houses than originally planned, around 10,900.
5G Italy Plan
The Plan aims to encourage the deployment of 5G mobile networks capable of ensuring a significant leap in the quality of mobile radio connectivity through
- fibre-optic relays of radio base stations (SRBs)
- the densification of network infrastructures with the construction of new sites in order to guarantee speeds of at least 150 Mbit/s on the downlink and 30 Mbit/s on the uplink, in areas where no network capable of providing 30 Mbit/s connectivity under typical peak traffic conditions exists or is not expected to exist in the next five years.
In addition to providing more bandwidth for mobile connections, 5G will enable the deployment of an IOT network to support public administration services.
First call (awarded on 13 June 2022)
Incentives investments for the realisation of fibre-optic bindings of existing mobile radio sites(backhauling); in Trentino, the fibre-optic connection of 118 installations is planned for an estimated value of 10 million euro financed by the PNRR.
Second call (awarded on 28 June 2022)
Incentives for the construction of new mobile network infrastructures (fibre, infrastructure and electronic components) in areas of market failure(densification); in Trentino, the construction of 5 new installations for mobile telephony in 5G technology is planned, for a countervalue of approximately €1.5 million financed on the PNRR.
Connected school
The project aims to guarantee Internet access to all school premises in Trentino with symmetrical speeds of at least 1 Gbps. In Trentino, about 90% of school buildings (over 400 out of 455) are reached by fibre optic connectivity or other high-speed technology.
The call for bids finances the implementation of connectivity interventions for 41 school facilities currently connected with lesser technology; activities include the supply and installation of the access network as well as management services, technical assistance and maintenance.
Connected Health
The objective is to guarantee connectivity for healthcare facilities belonging to the public health service, from outpatient clinics to hospitals, with symmetrical speeds of at least 1 Gbps and up to 10 Gbps.
In Trentino, PNRR investments mainly concern the upgrading of connectivity already ensured and the reaching at high speed of peripheral locations not yet served by the provincial network. A differentiation of the service provided is envisaged on the basis of 3 different types of healthcare facility.
The infrastructure activities concern 51 health facilities and are to be completed by 30 June 2026, guaranteeing connectivity services for at least the next five years.
