The exhibition“1946. From the vote for the Republic to the Paris Agreement”, on display in Trento’s Piazza Cesare Battisti, is organised by the Provincial Department for the Promotion of Awareness of Autonomy and curated by the Trentino Historical Museum Foundation.
The exhibition traces the key events that marked 1946. For the first time, women took part in the vote, the Republic was established, and the process leading to the Constitution began. In Trentino, the vote on 2 June was also an expression of the demands for autonomy. A few months later, on 5 September in Paris, the De Gasperi–Gruber Agreement was signed, laying the foundations for the protection of the South Tyrolean minority, for coexistence and for autonomy. The exhibition thus recounts a decisive year, characterised by democracy, rights and new prospects.
