Description
The Capercaillie, the largest of the Alpine galliforms, has now disappeared from most of the forests in the Alps, but is present in significant density in the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park area.
This splendid tetraonid is included in the list of species protected by European legislation, the so-called 'Birds Directive'. The Park Plan specifies that the capercaillie requires attention, in-depth study of its status and conservation action.
For this reason, an in-depth monitoring and research activity has been underway for some time, of which it is considered important to share results and future prospects.
This meeting follows the one organised in 2017, also held in Primiero, in which the results of the research conducted by the Park and the status of the species in the Alps were illustrated. From the discussion among the experts in the sector who took part in the work, it emerged that there was a need to consolidate the network of relations between the various professionals who deal with the species in the Alps, in order to favour the exchange of data, experiences and good practices.
This workshop intends to provide new updates on the development of ongoing research, to gather and deepen other experiences, and to share, in a concrete and participatory way, data, results and good practices from different Alpine contexts.
The aim is to arrive at effective management and conservation strategies through sharing.
