Description

This section on Ornamental Stones presents the results of the collaboration between the Geological Service and the Mining Service of the Autonomous Province of Trento, which took the form of a project with the main aim of enhancing the value of Trentino's ornamental stones, with a view to environmentally sustainable exploitation.

The results achieved are presented in the form of descriptive sheets illustrating the physical-mechanical and chemical-petrographic characteristics of the main stone materials used both today and in the past.

Giallo di Mori

Calcare giallo, più o meno carico, con fiamme violacee o macchie grigiastre. La struttura è compatta.

Nero di Ragoli

Calcare di colore nero con sottili fratture riempite da calcite bianca. Sono fittamente stratificati (20-40cm) e di grana finissima.

Rosso Ammonitico Veronese (Rosso Trento)

E' un calcare nodulare, abbastanza compatto con frattura concoide dal colore rosso vivo, rosso scuro, talvolta anche rosso mattone. Presenta stiloliti con concentrazioni di minerali argillosi e di ossidazioni di colore rosso scuro. Le macchie più chiare sono generalmente derivate dai residui fossili.

Rosso Ammonitico Veronese (Verdello)

E' un calcare nodulare, abbastanza compatto e con frattura concoide. Questa roccia presenta colore verdastro con stiloliti corrispondenti a livelli marnosi con pirite dispersa.
