National Strategy for Inland Areas – Improving Road Accessibility and Safety

One of the two projects concerns the section of the S.P. 78 between the villages of Pieve Tesino and Castello Tesino, with the aim of creating a dedicated route for vulnerable road users (cyclists and pedestrians). 
At present, the S.P. 78 is the only road that residents of the municipalities of Pieve Tesino, Cinte Tesino and Castello Tesino can use for their daily journeys (travelling to work, school, town halls, community centres, playgrounds, sports centres, etc.). This is also the only route available to tourists visiting the Tesino area.
In addition to traffic-related issues, there is therefore the problem of mixed traffic: cyclists and pedestrians who choose to use this road do not have a safe space protected from heavy goods vehicles. 
The project will therefore focus on upgrading the SP 78 and constructing a cycle and pedestrian path, which will run alongside the SP without creating any disruption.

A second project concerns the Val di Sole inland area.
Currently, the S.S. 42 in the municipality of Commezzadura runs at a higher elevation than the village itself, acting as both a visual and functional barrier. To reach the businesses located on the southern side of the Noce stream, one must therefore enter the hamlet of Mestriago, generating traffic within the built-up area (near the school and the community centre). 
The project aims to divert traffic away from the village, whilst at the same time providing alternatives for the most vulnerable road users (the elderly, children and women with pushchairs).

The project combines two objectives set out in the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) and the PNC (National Plan for Complementary Investments): support for so-called‘inland areas’and the improvement of accessibility and road safety, particularly in inland areas.

Specifically, the measures will provide social support by improving road conditions in the municipalities involved, particularly for vulnerable road users (pedestrians and cyclists).

Whilst road safety is the main objective, significant emphasis will also be placed on reducing pollution and reorganising the road network, which will also contribute to the development of tourism in the area.

Target: to contribute to the national target, which envisages the completion of works and acceptance testing for a total of 2,000 km of roads in inland areas.

The implementation of the PNRR in Trentino forms an integral part of the provincial policy framework for sustainable development, in line with the policies set out in the Provincial Economic and Financial Document and the related Update Note.

The project relating to the Val di Sole inland area in the municipality of Commezzadura – aimed at diverting traffic away from the village whilst creating alternatives for the most vulnerable road users (the elderly, children and women with pushchairs) – has been extended until 31 December 2026.
