General information
The Autonomous Province of Trento, through the Risk Prevention Service and CUE, will initiate specific collaborations with partners with proven experience in the field of hydrological-hydraulic modelling in order to develop and implement a system for flood forecasting and hydrological cycle simulation on provincial river systems, using different analytical models or algorithms, in order to increase the likelihood of an effective decision and to have a backup forecasting system consistent with what is happening at a national level.
The first of these collaborations involves the Universities of Trento and Padua in a project concerning the analysis and implementation of innovative techniques for forecasting short- and medium-term surface runoff for the management of flood and water scarcity events.
In parallel, a second collaboration will be started with the CIMA Foundation, a scientific reference partner of the National Civil Protection Department, for the enhancement of the forecasting cognitive framework of the hydrological-hydraulic regime of the Autonomous Province of Trento, with the aim of adapting the forecasting system currently implemented on a national scale to the provincial scale, as well as to increase the capacity of the EWS early warning systems of the Autonomous Province of Trento on the various water regimes of watercourses.
Finally, a platform ("DEWS/FEWS - Drought/Flood Early Warning System") will be implemented and developed in order to collect data, inputs and outputs and to allow the Trento Civil Protection to monitor hydro-meteorological magnitudes in real time and in forecast for both flood and low-flow states of watercourses.
Goals
To develop and implement a system for flood warning and hydrological cycle simulation on provincial river systems, using different analytical models or algorithms, in order to increase the probability of an effective decision and to have a back-up forecasting system consistent with what is happening nationally.
