HyMoCARES

Optimal management of watercourses makes it possible to use the water resource for multiple purposes (e.g. hydroelectric energy production, recreational use, etc.) while at the same time guaranteeing the maintenance of the habitat, ecological connectivity and helping to mitigate flood risk, with a view to sustainable territorial development.

The HYMOCARES project aims to deepen the integrated management of Alpine watercourses and the ecosystem services they provide.

The overall objective of the project is to develop, demonstrate and promote a new conceptual framework and a set of innovative methodologies to give greater weight and integration to ecosystem services in river planning and management activities. This serves to increase the protection, conservation and ecological connectivity of Alpine river ecosystems currently affected by multiple hydromorphological alterations. In the Trentino region, experimentation and monitoring activities are planned to assess the impacts of sediment management on river ecosystems.
