General information
Despite land care and controls, the risk of flooding can never be eliminated. It therefore becomes important, and this is the aim of the project, to increase awareness of flood risk, even in the long term, among decision-makers, administrators, the population and technicians, considering that climate change intensifies events.
Risk prevention also involves limiting land use, building hydraulic works, extraordinary and ordinary maintenance, which are not always accepted by local administrators and the population.
The project aims to support the anticipation (from the civil society's point of view) and management (from the decision-makers' point of view) of flood risks, intensified by climate change, in and with Alpine communities. The ultimate aim is to prepare local authorities and citizens to cope with climate change and to take adaptation actions.
Goals
The main objectives are:
- apply and improve different forms of communication in the context of integrated flood risk management, including a better understanding of the advantages and disadvantages concerning engineering interventions;
- to support the management of environmental risks in an effective, integrative and forward-looking manner (future-oriented or forward-looking governance);
- define and apply participatory processes involving local communities and stakeholders to improve the interaction between public government and private sectors in relation to hydrogeological risks;
- help develop habits that will minimise risks to a given territory and community and maximise co-responsibility for risk and adaptation actions;
- better understanding of the options and choices available for the system and of the potential outcomes of socio-environmental actions (feedback) for the future of communities;
- the production of guidelines for hydrogeological risk communication and forecasting with self-financing strategies and tools.
