Description
A classic and beautiful example of a transitional peat bog with a residual pond, in an excellent state of conservation. It is a vitally important biotope for the reproduction of many species of amphibians and reptiles.
Special Area of Conservation (SAC)
A glacial outwash basin on the Dossone di Cembra, dug into the porphyries, on which morainic material was later deposited. In its centre is a residual pond, on the banks of which a vast agglomeration has developed, formed largely by sphagnum trees.
This is a typical local reserve - transitional peat bog, with patches of raised bog vegetation (extensive mats of sphagnum moss); in the outer area, a wooded belt with pubescent birch and dwarf pine has developed.
