Scanuppia

Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

Karst plateau mainly affecting the altomontana and subalpine belt, north-western offshoot of the Folgaria Plateau.
The vegetal landscape is characterised by patches of fir woods with beech trees that fade into a spruce wood and then into a sparse larch wood. Above this is a vast mugo thicket; only at the top are patches of alpine meadows and ridge areas to be observed.
The presence of a still-mountain pasture ensures the survival of at least part of the grazing areas in the spruce belt.

Description

The area, which is very sparsely anthropised due to the considerable difficulty of access, hosts a number of important floristic rarities.
The site is of relevant national and/or provincial interest for the presence and reproduction of endangered animal species, important glacial relicts, exclusive and/or typical of the Alps.
Habitats of special interest not included in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC are present, in particular: underwater environment, % negligible.
