Description
The Palù di Borghetto is a wetland of strategic importance for migratory movements along the Adige Valley axis.
Land reclamation, which, especially in the 20th century, progressively wiped out the extensive wetlands that had always characterised the bottom of this large Alpine valley, in fact only spared very few strips of land, including this area.
This is why the Palù di Borghetto has traditionally been considered a privilieged area, especially for the stopover of migratory birds, especially wetland-related species, in spring and autumn.
Its strict protection and a prudent management that restores its valuable natural characteristics as a host for water birds that are undergoing a negative development, first and foremost the opening of clearings in the reed thicket, are an unavoidable condition to ensure its availability as a valuable 'oasis' for migratory birds in the future.
