Muga Bianca - Pasubio

Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

Scarcely anthropised pre-Alpine limestone massif. The site is centred on the wild Gulva Valley, dominated by mixed forests, and the undulating summit plateau, where alpine meadows prevail.
On the northern slope of Colsanto, a characteristic relief of the Pasubio limestone massif, a subalpine spruce forest with scattered stone pine trees dominates.

Description

Area with high environmental variability, little human activity and high naturalness.
Appreciable contingent of endemic species and floristic rarities.
The site is of relevant national and/or provincial interest for the presence and reproduction of endangered animal species, important glacial relicts, exclusive and/or typical of the Alps.
One of the salient features of the site is the relict presence of the stone pine, the only one known in the south-eastern Pre-Alps.
This is an area of international interest for the transit of many medium- and long-range migratory species in late summer and autumn (post-reproductive migration).
