Description
A valley-floor lake surrounded by a belt of helophytic vegetation, set within an environmental and landscape context of exceptional interest, owing to the presence of evergreen holm oak woods, which reach their northernmost limit of distribution here.
The site is also of significant importance for the nesting, stopover and/or wintering of bird species that are protected, in sharp decline, and/or have a localised distribution in the Alps. The presence of Annex II invertebrates indicates that the flowing waters are in a good natural state.
Habitats of particular interest not included in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC are present, in particular: Phragmition (10 per cent).
Priority habitat 6210 (spectacular orchid flowering) covering 0.04 per cent of the site.
