A lake on the valley floor with a belt of elophytic vegetation, in an environmental and landscape setting of exceptional interest, due to the presence of evergreen holm oak woods, here at their northern limit of distribution.
The site is also of great importance for the nesting, stopping and/or wintering of bird species that are protected or in strong decline, and/or have a localised distribution in the Alps. Presence of Annex II invertebrates indicating good naturalness of running waters.
Habitats of special interest not included in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC are present, in particular: Phragmition (10%).
Priority habitat 6210 (beautiful orchid blooms) with 0.04% coverage of the site.
