Lake Santa Colomba

Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

Lake of glacial exarction on the porphyry plateau of Mount Calisio, situated between the Cembra Valley and Valsugana. It has a vegetation belt of floating and submerged hydrophytes and heliophytes; near the lake there is a small marsh with sedges, reeds and a thick moss layer. The surrounding area is occupied by Scots pine forests.

Description

The importance of the site is due to the lake with its rim of elophytic vegetation and the small marsh with rare mossy vegetation. It is a vitally important biotope for the reproduction of many species of amphibians and reptiles.
There are habitats of special interest not included in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC: Phragmition (10%).
