Lake Idro

Special Area of Conservation (SAC) - Special Protection Area (SPA)

Northern shore of Lake Idro (Sarca Valley) with extensive reed thickets and above all magnocariceti. Of particular interest is a valley crossed by a tributary of the lake and completely invaded by magnocariceti.

Description

Site of exceptional importance due to the lacustrine vegetation on the shores of the lake and the extensive marshes developed at the bottom of a valley that flows into the lake itself.
This is a unique environment with plant associations that are becoming increasingly rare due to reclamation in the alluvial areas at the bottom of the valley.
The site is also of great importance for the nesting, stopping and/or wintering of bird species that are protected or in strong decline, and/or have a localised distribution in the Alps.
Habitats of special interest not included in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC are present: Caricetum elatae and Caricetum gracilis (40%), Phragmition (30%).
