Lake Ampola

A eutrophic lake at the bottom of the valley, situated in a flat area at the watershed between the Valle di Ledro and the Val d'Ampola. An exceptional lake environment, with complete seration of vegetation, located in a rocky limestone gorge of great beauty.
The site is also of importance for the nesting, stopping and/or wintering of bird species that are protected or in strong decline, and/or have a localised distribution in the Alps. Presence of Annex II invertebrates indicating good naturalness of running waters.
Habitats of special interest not included in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC are present: Magnocaricion (10%).
