Description
The importance of the site is due to the simultaneous presence in it of two series of marsh vegetation: that of organic substrata (on peat layers) and that of mineral substrata (on fluvio- glacial deposits).
It is a vitally important biotope for the reproduction of many species of amphibians and reptiles.
The site is also of importance for the nesting, stopping and/or wintering of bird species that are protected or in strong decline, and/or have a localised distribution in the Alps.
Habitats of special interest not included in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC are present: Magnocaricion (40%), Molinion (20%).
