Description
Alpine valley of glacial origin on the southern slope of the Ortles-Cevedale group. At the head of the valley, bordered by peaks of up to 3,000 m, there are vast glaciers and impressive moraine deposits.
The vegetation consists of coniferous forests (spruce, stone pine and larch), followed at higher altitudes by subalpine heaths and alpine pastures. Habitats of special interest not included in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC are present, in particular: Acid fens of Caricion fuscae, Caricetalia curvulae.
