Responsibilities and functions
The Network is located in central-eastern Trentino, in the Cembra Valley. It borders the Fiemme Destra-Avisio Network of Reserves to the north-east.
It includes the areas of greatest naturalistic value in the territory: the Natura 2000 Network sites, the local reserves (located mainly on the Dossone di Cembra ridge) and the course of the Avisio torrent, connected by ecological corridors functional to the proper management of biodiversity.
The environment of the upper Cembra Valley is made precious by the succession of wetlands (peat bogs in different stages of evolution) that enhance the mountain ridge that separates the valley from the Adige furrow from a scientific and conservation point of view. The alignment of rises and depressions rich in forest ecosystems of high natural value at the highest altitudes, the glacial terraces at intermediate altitudes where the main settlements have developed over time, and the incisions and gorges of the Avisio torrent constitute precious evidence of Quaternary glacialism and the subsequent morphogenetic activity determined by surface waters.
The Cembran territory at medium-low altitudes is characterised by extensive sequences of terraces - partly planted with vines - dotted with villages and small rural settlements, making it one of the most significant traditional agricultural landscapes in Trentino. The route of the Torrente Avisio is notable for the uniqueness of its landscape views as well as the precious corners of wilderness that it still hosts.
The Cembra Valley is criss-crossed by a network of paths, some of which (e.g. the Dürer path) are part of transnational routes, paths that allow visitors to get acquainted with the emergencies expressed by the natural environment and landscape as well as those of a historical-social nature.
The objective of the Network of Reserves is to protect and enhance its territory by developing sustainable economic activities for the benefit of local communities. The Network of Reserves was set up in 2011 thanks to a voluntary agreement between the former municipalities of Grumes, Faver, Grauno and Valda (now the Municipality of Altavalle), the Municipality of Capriana, the Cembra Valley Community, the ASUC of Rover Carbonare and the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme with the Autonomous Province of Trento.
In 2016, the Municipality of Segonzano and the Consortium of Municipalities of the BIM dell'Adige also signed the agreement and at the end of 2019, the Municipalities of Valfloriana, Cembra Lisignago, Lona Lases and Albiano, the ASUCs of Lases and Lona and the Val di Fiemme Territorial Community also joined the Network. In 2021 the Municipality of Sover was added and in 2022 the Municipality of Giovo.
The leading body of the Network of Reserves is the Cembra Valley Community.
In 2022 it renewed its commitments with a nine-year convention, according to the provisions of the recent reform.
