Fiemme Nature Reserve Network – Right Bank of the Avisio

Located in eastern Trentino, the network extends along the orographic right bank of the Val di Fiemme, close to the border with South Tyrol, between the Monte Corno Nature Park (BZ) and the Costalunga Pass, the mountain pass separating the Latemar massif from the Catinaccio group. It borders theVal di Cembra–Avisio Network of Reservesto the south-west and shares the Latemar Node Special Area of Conservation with the Val di Fassa Network of Reserves.

It extends along the course ofthe River Aviso, from Predazzo to the Stramentizzo reservoir, and along the right-hand slope, encompassing the Nodo del Latemar and Monte Cornon mountain ranges. A highlight of this reserve is also the distinctive alpine environment of the Lavazè plateau and the open landscape of meadows and pastures inthe ‘ville’ area – that is, the villages situated upstream of Cavalese.
The area is characterised by the presence of numerous habitats of significant natural and scenic value (peat bogs, wetlands, forest ecosystems and Swiss stone pine forests on limestone-dolomite substrates, arid habitats, and the riverine ecosystem of the Avisio stream).
Almost a third of the entire protected area is owned by the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, the historic valley authority whose documented foundation dates back to at least the year 1111.

Established in 2013, the Network comprises nine municipalities in the Val di Fiemme (Castello-Molina di Fiemme, Cavalese, Panchià, Predazzo, Tesero, Ville di Fiemme and Ziano di Fiemme), two municipalities in the Val di Fassa (Moena and Sèn Jan di Fassa), the Val di Fiemme Territorial Community, the BIM Adige-Trento Consortium of Municipalities, the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme and the Feudal Rule of Predazzo.

The Reserve Networks

The Fiemme – Destra Avisio Network of Nature Reserves is one of the 10 Networks of Nature Reserves in Trentino.
The law stipulates that, provided they meet certain criteria, these networks may be designated by the Provincial Executive as a ‘Local Nature Park’ or a ‘River Park’.
