Responsibilities and functions
Situated in eastern Trentino, the Network extends along the right orographic bank of the Val di Fiemme near the border with Alto Adige, between the Monte Corno Nature Park (BZ) and the Costalunga Pass, the pass that separates the Latemar massif from the Catinaccio group. It borders to the south-west with the Val di Cembra - Avisio Network of Reserves and shares the Latemar Nodo Special Area of Conservation with the Val di Fassa Network of Reserves.
It runs along the course of the Aviso torrent in the stretch from Predazzo to the Stramentizzo basin and along the right orographic slope including the Latemar Nodo and Monte Cornon mountain massifs. The jewel in the crown of this reserve is also the characteristic alpine environment of the Lavazè plateau and the open landscape consisting of meadows and pastures in the ville area, i.e. the inhabited areas upstream of Cavalese.
The territory is characterised by the presence of numerous environments with significant naturalistic and landscape values (peat bogs, wetlands, forest ecosystems and cembranes on calcareous-dolomitic substrates, arid environments, the river ecosystem of the Avisio torrent).
Almost one third of the entire protected area is owned by the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, the historic valley authority whose documented foundation dates back to at least 1111.
Established in 2013, nine Val di Fiemme municipalities (Castello-Molina di Fiemme, Cavalese, Panchià, Predazzo, Tesero, Ville di Fiemme and Ziano di Fiemme), two Val di Fassa municipalities (Moena and Sèn Jan di Fassa), the Val di Fiemme Territorial Community, the Consortium of BIM Adige-Trento Municipalities, the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme and the Regola Feudale di Predazzo adhere to the Network.
