EUSALP - European Strategy for the Alpine Region

Established in 2016, EUSALP is the fourth macro-region recognised by the European Union and comprises 48 regions of France, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy and Slovenia, with a population of about 70 million inhabitants in an area of about 450,000 km².

Responsibilities and functions

EUSALP is aimed at strengthening cooperation between seven States (five EU Member States: Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia; and two non-EU Member States: Liechtenstein and Switzerland) and their territories located in the Alpine Arc in order to jointly respond to common challenges and opportunities. The Strategy aims at involving all territorial actors in the construction of an innovative and sustainable development model that promotes competitiveness, growth and employment while preserving and enhancing the Alpine natural and cultural heritage. The Italian territorial authorities involved in the Strategy are, in addition to the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the Alpine Regions: Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Lombardy, Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta and Veneto.
