At today's meeting, the Provincial Council approved the 'Actions for the prevention of and fight against Pathological Gambling' as an integration of the 'Directives for the planning of the offer of services in the area of addictions' approved by the executive last March.
"Pathological Gambling Disorder represents a significant problem not only for health but also for society, with serious repercussions on the lives of the people involved, their families and the community as a whole. Tackling it requires integrated expertise, dialogue and a shared commitment. As institutions, our task is to provide adequate resources, services and pathways in order to offer an integrated, fast and strong response,' are the words of provincial councillor for health and social policies Mario Tonina. 'In this area, it is necessary to become more sophisticated in intercepting and taking charge of users,' the councillor continues. 'At the same time, prevention programmes must be implemented that are diversified by age group and include gaming, which constitutes a risk factor for addiction, especially for younger people. A strategic aspect also concerns information and training activities and the strengthening of the ban on gambling advertising'.
In accordance with the guidelines defined at a national and provincial level, actions aimed at preventing and combating gambling have been identified, in close collaboration with the Addiction Operative Unit of the Provincial Health Services Agency, with which the following objectives can be achieved: to combat the spread of gambling in the Province of Trento; to increase the interception of people who have a problematic involvement with gambling; to increase retention in therapeutic treatment; to increase the interception of women and to encourage the interception of young people under 24.
