In the evening of today, bear JJ4 was removed from the Casteller wildlife area and is now on its way to Germany, where it will be housed in the 'Alternative Park for Bears and Wolves' in the Black Forest. The German Foundation, which manages the park, has taken full responsibility for the technical and financial costs of the relocation. Two other problematic specimens, Jurka and DJ3, already live in the same facility and have been removed to Trentino for years. With this departure, only one bear remains at the Casteller, specimen M49. "Today the long-expressed wish to transfer the bear JJ4 to Germany is realised," points out provincial forestry councillor with responsibility for large carnivores Roberto Failoni, who has just informed Andrea Papi's family. "The objective," Failoni concludes, "is to return the Casteller to its original function, dedicated to injured animals or animals in difficulty, and not to the permanent housing of problematic specimens.
