   Federica Pellegrini, Matteo Giunta and the new 'out-of-the-water' challenges

   From athletes to lovers, from spouses to parents, coaching the younger generation and raising little Matilde. New challenges, many outside the pools, for Federica Pellegrini and Matteo Giunta. Fates crossed thanks to sport and the extraordinary career of Federica, 'La Divina'. In terms of results, it is inevitable to summarise, drawing on the motivations that have opened wide the doors of the Swimming Hall of Fame to her: the only one among men and women to have won eight medals in a row in the same speciality, the 200 metre freestyle, at the World Championships; the first Italian Olympic swimming champion and the only Italian swimmer to have set several world records in more than one event. First female swimmer to qualify for five consecutive Olympic finals in the same event, the 200 m freestyle.

   The Inter of Matthäus: the records, the love of the fans and the relationship with Trap

Football and Inter legend Lothar Matthäus (also European and world champion) talked about the most important moments of his life: his arrival in Italy, winning the Scudetto with the Nerazzurri in 1989, and winning the Golden Ball in 1990. Then the return to Germany, to Bayern Munich, and a constant on the bench: Giovanni Trapattoni. First at Inter, then at Bayern, Trap and Matthäus have always had a special relationship. 'I owe him a lot, he was a father figure,' recalled the former German champion.

   Cerasuolo and Martinenghi: a golden breaststroke

   The breaststroke speciality in Italy is experiencing a moment of particular splendour, studded with significant international successes. It is the style that gave our country the first Olympic gold medals in the history of swimming, with an unforgettable Domenico Fioravanti at Sydney 2000, twenty-five years ago.
   Today, in the Sala della Filarmonica for the Trento Sports Festival, the two top Italian breaststrokers, who cannot even remember that first Sydney medal, young as they are, recounted their latest triumphs: Simone Cerasuolo, 22, fresh world champion in the 50-metre breaststroke in Singapore 2025, and Nicolò Martinenghi, 26, Olympic champion in the 100-metre breaststroke in Paris 2024 and world champion in Budapest 2022.

   A necessary effort to deserve the right rest. This, in a nutshell, is Mauro Corona's thought on sport, speaking in the talk 'Sport as a source of tranquillity'. In a Piazza Duomo that was struggling to contain the large audience that had flocked there, clutching a cigar between their fingers, wearing a bandana and technical clothing, Corona soon captured the attention with amusing stories and anecdotes. Beginning with his initial apology for his hoarse voice, 'yesterday I played morra and I have no voice, but I beat my brother', or his lack of propensity for sport: 'To be a winner in any sport,' he admitted, 'you have to start very early and dedicate yourself body and soul. To the idea of spending 20 years of sacrifice to enter sports history, I preferred the geography of taverns'.

    Trento gets fired up for the Azzurri of winter sports

    It was a bath of crowds, the one that, in Piazza Duomo, welcomed the almost thirty Italian ski, snowboard, luge and biathlon champions. Dozens, hundreds of people, flocked from all over the province and beyond, to take home a snapshot, an autograph, or even just a smile from the champion of the heart. And those who say that winter sports are often too niche, have never seen the love that the Trento Sports Festival knows how to reserve for its athletes. Amidst happy children, enthusiasts and even the merely curious, the event that featured, among others, the multi-award-winning Sofia Goggia, Federica Brignone, Dominik Paris, Dorothea Wierer and Federico Pellegrino, 'informally' kicked off the winter season. The one that will lead to the eagerly awaited home Olympics.

    Cicchetti and Sabatini, World Cup emotions

    'There is no Olympic and Paralympic sport, there is only sport'. This is how the Gazzetta journalist, Claudio Arrigoni, opened today's meeting at the Filarmonica with two stars of Italian athletics who were protagonists at the World Paralympic Athletics Championships in New Delhi: Marco Cicchetti and Ambra Sabatini.
    In India, the Italian team achieved a historic result, placing eighth in the medals table. There were 11 Italian medals: seven golds (a record for the Italian delegation), one silver and three bronzes. Among the medals were Ambra Sabatini's gold (100m) and Marco Cicchetti's double gold (long and 200m), who also won bronze in the 100m.

    Peter Fill: my tips for preventing back pain

    A bump taken badly and Peter Fill falls during the World Cup downhill at Beaver Creek in Colorado in 2018. Due to back pain caused by that bad bump, the South Tyrolean downhill skier had to stop and began skipping important races until his retirement in 2020. With an impressive list of honours, including two rainbow medals and three World Cups (two in downhill, in Lake Louise in 2008 and Kitzbühel in 2016, and one in combined in Wengen in 2018), he is now a coach for giant slalom skiers. He does not fail to give his students advice on how to prevent back pain, which he has learned to live with. Today at Palazzo Geremia for the Trento Sports Festival, he spoke about it together with Dr Claudio Soru, anaesthetist and specialist in pain therapy at the IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio in Milan.

    Olympic values from the perspective of champions Compagnoni and Thoeni

    Who if not two Italian ski champions such as Deborah Compagnoni and Gustav Thoeni were the right people to analyse the sporting value of the Olympic Games? The meeting organised at the Palazzo della Regione, as part of the programme of The Sports Festival, with the two skiers, who have won a total of seven Olympic medals, as well as the president of the Italian Winter Sports Federation Flavio Roda, was met with extraordinary approval, as well as Bruno Felicetti, who dwelt on the state of the art of the facilities in Val di Fiemme that will host the Nordic competitions next February, and Rainer Senoner, who instead will have the task with his team of putting the 2031 Alpine Ski World Championships in Val Gardena into place.
