'Proceed with the killing of the specimen identified' as the author of the fatal attack on the 26-year-old runner in the Caldes woods. So says the contingent and urgent ordinance signed by the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti. Taking into account the situation of 'very serious danger to public safety and security, potentially affecting several municipalities', the document provides that the Trentino Forestry Corps will continue intensive monitoring of the area where the tragedy occurred, in order to ensure the maximum protection of public safety and security', as well as to 'proceed, as soon as possible, to the genetic identification of the animal that was the protagonist of the attack'. Laboratory analyses on the findings - carried out by the Edmund Mach Foundation - will lead to the attribution of the identification code of the bear in question. "Any captured specimens, suspected of being the one sought, may be kept temporarily in captivity pending genetic confirmation of their identity," reads the ordinance. Other ordinances will follow for the removal of three problem bears: MJ5, JJ4 and M62: the (non-binding) opinion of Ispra will be needed to proceed: 'We have received verbal assurances that these requests will also be granted,' the president specifies.
