Generational changeover in family businesses: strategy or luck?

Opinions on how to achieve the perfect generational handover in family businesses, allowing them a certain longevity in the panel dedicated to the Trento Festival of Economics are divided. If for Fabio Corsico, professor at the Luiss Business School University, and for those who have had virtuous experiences such as Sergio Marullo of Corndojanni, ceo of Angelini Industries, entrepreneur Francesco Micheli, and Giovanni Tamburi of TIP, the success of the operation lies "in a quality transfer, which passes on the 'entrepreneurial essence', before genetics, and is therefore based on rules other than blood", Massimo Ponzellini thinks very differently. For the honorary president of the European Investment Bank, in fact, the essence is all 'in luck, because an entrepreneur worthy of the name is difficult to reproduce'.

The business of data: between artificial and real intelligence

"The data business can be compared to that of black gold, oil: there is a search and extraction phase, followed by a necessary refining phase. Data alone today do not speak, we need algorithms that can 'clean' them and computing power that can connect different sources. Sensors are in fact an important part of the value chain. Data, computing power and sensors are a whole row that makes artificial intelligence real'. This was the metaphor proposed by the new president of the Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Ferruccio Resta, and which characterised the meeting dedicated to the business of data and its use, organised today, Saturday 27 May, as part of the Trento Festival of Economics at Palazzo Geremia.

Giovanni Maria Flick in Trento: "We risk not recognising the border between 'humanising' technique and 'technicalising' man".

He took stock of justice in Italy in the light of the prospects for reform, discussing differentiated autonomy - which worries - but also presidentialism and the Constitutional Charter: "Not implemented".

Autonomy and reforms at the centre of the meeting with Minister Ciriani

The issue of special autonomies as accepted in the written text of the Calderoli bill does not represent a danger for the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano: "We have the ambition to be a reference model, thanks to our special statutes and our history, but also thanks to the responsibility we have been able to take on in so many years of managing Autonomy," stressed the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, during the dialogue with the Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani and the president of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Arno Kompatscher, which took place this morning in the Depero Room of the palace in Piazza Dante during the Trento Festival of Economics. The meeting was moderated by Barbara Fiammeri, Il Sole 24 Ore journalist and expert on government and legislative issues.
Kompatscher, on the other hand, recalled the long and difficult path that the implementation of South Tyrolean Autonomy has undergone, so much so that the issuing of the discharge by Austria took place 20 years after the approval of the Second Statute, and there have been alternating phases in the recognition of competences. "We view differentiated autonomy favourably: if it is managed well, autonomy does not only benefit the territory concerned, but is in favour of the country system. The more you let us do, the more we can contribute,' the president of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano said again.

This is the time of the Social Economy

The social economy is a vital sector in Europe, with almost 3 million organisations offering concrete solutions to future challenges. Associations, social enterprises, cooperatives, mutual societies and foundations play a key role in creating and maintaining quality jobs, contributing to social inclusion and promoting the active and democratic participation of citizens. Moreover, they play a key role in European welfare systems and regenerate abandoned spaces. In the countries where it is most developed, the social economy also contributes significantly to GDP, e.g. in France and Spain it accounts for 10 % and in Italy it reaches 15 %.
At the Trento Festival of Economics, Euricse, the European research centre on cooperative and social enterprises, organised a panel dedicated to the social economy and EU policies, bringing together experts from different areas of expertise to discuss the central role of the social economy in promoting sustainable and socially inclusive economic growth.

Culture Minister Sangiuliano: 'We want to give a book to every new born'

Culture and economic development. This was discussed at the Castello del Buonconsiglio, as part of the Trento Festival of Economics, where Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano spoke remotely, providing some of the guidelines of his department: 'We are a cultural superpower, I said this because it is evidence. Over two thousand years we have had so many entanglements that have left us a great value in the area. Today we must live up to what they have left us in the past. The Constitution speaks of protection but also of development, the first tier museums will become 60 and they will be autonomous, becoming small companies' The minister wanted to clarify a few passages: 'It is a gigantic fake news that researchers will have to pay for the copyright of images, it is a different matter if you have to publish a book or if you make industrial objects. Businesses that want to do culture? We can raise the art bonus but above all raise the quality of museum services, a ticket to the Uffizi cannot cost less than a pizza'.

Stiglitz: 'Democracy is at risk, we need a reform of capitalism'

"Democracy is in danger, just look at what happened on Capitol Hill. In several countries, even democratic ones, populism and authoritarianism are on the rise'. Thus began, in a packed Social Theatre, Joseph Stiglitz of Columbia University, Nobel Prize winner for economics in 2001. The economist, prompted by questions from Radio 24 Central Editor Gigi Donelli, consequently stated that 'a reform of capitalism is urgently needed'. Lisa Fitoussi of Sciences Po, recalled the figure of her father, the economist Jean-Paul, who died last year. "Like him I think that first of all Europe must be political, then economic".

For Marco Buti (holder of the Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa Chair at the European University Institute) "The Pact is central to European economic and monetary policy, but we need to reflect better on common priorities", while for Professor Veronica De Romanis "Greater flexibility could turn into a strong external constraint for Italy". Marcello Messori's (Luiss Guido Carli University) assessment of the European Commission's proposed fiscal rules was positive, while for former minister Giovanni Tria: "There is a lack of a common general vision".

Luca Zingaretti from actor to entrepreneur: 'No more boring scripts, I want to tell my stories'

Talking about his new role as an entrepreneur, the birth of the production company Zocotoco and the great success of 'The investigations of Lolita Lobosco', Luca Zingaretti at the Trento Festival of Economics, in one of the Fuori Festival events. "I have been acting since I was 18 years old, but at a certain point I began to think that much of what I was and am called upon to play makes no sense. So I decided to try to tell my own stories, to develop them from beginning to end. That is how Zocotoco was born, which among other things achieved success with the series on Lolita Lobosco. How? Just another suggestion: reading the novels I sensed her extraordinariness as a character and I wanted to believe it. Now we are writing the third season, so the intuition was lucky'.
