The president of the Autonomous Province of Trento expresses his satisfaction with the decision of the Regional Administrative Tribunal, which rejected the requests for the precautionary suspension of the decree to kill two wolves belonging to the pack responsible for the predations at malga Boldera, in the municipality of Ala. "The administrative court has defined as intrinsically legitimate the initiative of our administration that, for the first time in Italy and with the endorsement of Ispra, intends to remove two wolves in order to dissuade the rest of the pack from carrying out new predations. In fact, we believe that the traditional activity of grazing animals at high altitudes should be preserved by all means: the breeders are the guardians of the pastures and their activity enhances our territory'. The Trentino Forestry Corps will therefore continue its surveillance activities and will intervene to shoot the two specimens should the herd approach the malga. Alternative measures to culling (which in the case of bears the Court has favoured on other occasions) are ruled out, considering capture with snares and narcosis hardly feasible. The precautionary incident in chambers is scheduled for 14 September next, but if the culling is carried out in the meantime, the matter in dispute will cease.
