Transport of pupils with special educational needs and users with disabilities

Pupils with special educational needs and with disabilities, users with disabilities attending social-educational centres, social-health centres, day centres for minors and therapy can make use of individualised transport promoted by the Autonomous Province of Trento.

Transport is guaranteed to users with motor, sensory or psychic difficulties, of a permanent or temporary nature, dependent on any cause, encountering obstacles, hindrances or limitations to use, in conditions of adequate safety and autonomy, means of locomotion and public transport according to the following criteria

• temporary disability lasting more than 30 days on the basis of a certificate issued by a medical specialist;
• transport on the home-school route (primary and secondary school);
• transport on the home-school route (secondary school) where the distance does not exceed 30 km, except in cases where there are no schools with similar characteristics within this distance or where there are capacity problems;
• the transport service to centres, subject to a doctor's prescription, for speech therapy, physiotherapy, animal-assisted therapy (TAA), music therapy;
• transport to summer centres for pupils attending primary and secondary schools, according to a schedule that includes continuous days;
• transport for any educational outings, guided tours and other educational activities carried out in an out-of-school environment in the province as long as they are completed within one day;
• transport for the continuous attendance of socio-educational centres and cooperatives, where the distance does not exceed 30 km, except in cases where there are no centres with similar characteristics within this distance or where there are capacity problems;
• the transport service for the return to the family of minor users departing from protected flats in the territory.

The tariff for the use of the individualised transport service for pupils with special educational needs and disabled users is established by resolution of the Provincial Council.

For the 2025/2026 school year the fee is 20.00 euro (Resolution no. 941 of 11 June 2021).

The card issued (CAT A) is free circulation (i.e. home-school route) and can be used on all scheduled services, buses, urban and extra-urban, and trains within the province (with the exception of long-distance trains (Intercity, Eurocity, Euronight, Frecce di Trenitalia) and is valid from 01.09.2025 to 31.08.2026.

Moreover, the season ticket is free of charge from the 4th child user of transport services from kindergartens to secondary schools and vocational training centres. To obtain the issue of the fourth free season ticket, you must download the dedicated form, fill it in and send it to the email address indicated on the form.

• users with disabilities;
• BES pupils or pupils with disabilities requiring transport for attendance at pre-schools, primary schools, secondary schools and colleges;
• pupils requiring transport to attend day care centres for minors (homework centres);
• BES pupils or pupils with disabilities who require transport to attend therapy in an extracurricular environment.

The application may be submitted by:

• the person responsible for the minor pupil
• the user if over the age of 18

Applications for individualised transport must be submitted by 28 February of the school year in question to the relevant structure of the Autonomous Province of Trento directly or through the school office, the social-educational centre or the cooperative attended.

Applications submitted after the deadline are only accepted if the requested service is feasible on the basis of the schedule of authorised services for other users.

For the correct filling in of the application it is necessary to consult the annual circular paying attention when entering the required data.

NEW ONLINE APPLICATION PROCEDURE

As of 28 December 2025, the new digitalised procedure will be active by means of online filling in and sending the application for admission to the individualised transport service for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, users with disabilities attending socio-educational centres, socio-medical centres, day centres for minors and therapy with access to the Citizen's Room.

The service can be accessed from the Access to Service section, after identification through SPID (Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale - Public Digital Identity System), CIE (Carta d'Identità Elettronica - Electronic Identity Card), CNS (Carta Nazionale dei Servizi - National Services Card) or CPS (Carta Provinciale dei Servizi - Provincial Services Card) with access to the 'Stanza del Cittadino' (Citizen's Room).

There will be an initial trial period with the simultaneous possibility of using the forms on this page.

For new users interested in the service (those not already using the service), the application form must be submitted together with

• a certificate from the medical specialist (excluding services for task centres)
• a detailed report from the social services;
• if the user requires the presence of an accompanying person on board the vehicle (i.e. a person in addition to the driver) specific and suitable health certification issued by a specialist doctor. Escorted transport services are not authorised if the distance from the residence to the destination (school, centre, etc.) is less than 1 km.

Payment can be made

• online at mypay.provincia.tn.it: select the 'Provincia Autonoma di Trento' entity; enter the 'Avviso Code' (a unique code for the individual payment, indicated in the last line of the PagoPA notice); finally, choose the preferred payment channel
• at bank counters, Sisal and Lottomatica circuits (tobacconists) or at other PagoPA-enabled counters and/or channels, presenting the PagoPa notice.

A card to be printed (in colour or black and white) and cut out will be sent to the e-mail address of the user or those responsible for the pupil, which will be valid for free circulation for the period from 1 September to 31 August of the year in question, and may therefore be used not only on the service assigned for the authorised route, but also on all scheduled services, urban and suburban buses and trains within the province of Trento.
