Transport for pupils with special educational needs and passengers with disabilities

Pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, and service users with disabilities attending socio-educational centres, social and healthcare centres, day centres for children and therapy centres, are eligible for the personalised transport service provided by the Autonomous Province of Trento.

Transport is guaranteed to service users with mobility, sensory or mental difficulties – whether permanent or temporary, and regardless of the cause – who face obstacles, impediments or limitations in using, in conditions of adequate safety and independence, means of mobility and public transport, in accordance with the following criteria:

• a temporary impairment lasting more than 30 days, as certified by a specialist doctor;
• transport between home and school (primary and lower secondary schools);
• transport on the home-to-school route (upper secondary school) where the distance does not exceed 30 km, except where there are no schools with similar characteristics within that distance or where there are capacity issues;
• transport to centres, subject to a referral from a specialist doctor, for speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, animal-assisted therapy (AAT) or music therapy sessions;
• transport to summer camps for pupils attending primary and lower secondary school, in accordance with a programme comprising consecutive days;
• transport for any educational outings, guided tours and other educational activities carried out outside the school environment within the province, provided they are completed within a single day;
• transport for regular attendance at socio-educational centres and co-operatives, where the distance does not exceed 30 km, except where there are no centres with similar characteristics within that distance or where there are capacity issues;
• a transport service to take underage service users back to their families, departing from supported accommodation within the province.

The fare for the use of the personalised transport service for pupils with special educational needs and users with disabilities is set by a resolution of the Provincial Executive.

For the 2026/2027 school year, the fare is 20.00 euros ( Resolution No. 941 of 11 June 2021).

The pass issued (CAT A) allows free travel (i.e. between home and school) and enables the use of all scheduled services, including buses – both urban and extra-urban – and trains within the province (excluding long-distance trains (Intercity, Eurocity, Euronight, Frecce operated by Trenitalia))and is valid from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027.  

Furthermore, the travel pass is provided free of charge from the fourth child onwards who uses transport services from nursery schools up to upper secondary schools and vocational training centres. To obtain the fourth travel card free of charge, you must download the relevant form, complete it and send it to the email address indicated on the form.

• users with disabilities;
• pupils with special educational needs or disabilities who require transport to attend nursery schools, primary schools, lower secondary schools and upper secondary schools;
• pupils requiring transport to attend day centres for children (homework centres);
• pupils with special educational needs or disabilities who require transport to attend therapy sessions outside school hours.

The application may be submitted by:

• the guardian of a minor pupil
• the pupil themselves, if they are of legal age

Applications for individualised transport must be submitted by 28 February of the relevant school yearto the relevant transport authority of the Autonomous Province of Trento, either directly or via the school office, the socio-educational centre or the co-operative attended by the pupil.

Applications submitted after the deadline will only be accepted if the service requested is feasible, subject to the scheduling of authorised services for other users.

NEW METHOD FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS ONLINE

From 28 December 2025, the new digital procedure will be in place, involving the completion and online submission of the application for admission to the personalised transport service for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, users with disabilities attending socio-educational centres, socio-health centres, day centres for minors and therapy centres, via the Citizen’s Portal.

The service can be accessed via the‘Access the service’ section, following identification via SPID (Public Digital Identity System), CIE (Electronic Identity Card), CNS (National Services Card) or CPS (Provincial Services Card) upon entering the “Citizen’s Portal”.

There will be an initial trial period, during which the forms on this page may also be used.

For new users interested in the service (those who do not already use the service), the application form for admission to the service must be submitted together with:

• a certificate from a specialist doctor (excluding services for homework centres);
• a detailed report from social services;
• where the user requires the presence of an accompanying person on board the vehicle (i.e. a person other than the driver), a specific and appropriate medical certificate issued by a specialist doctor. Transport services with an accompanying person are not authorised if the distance from the user’s home to the destination (school, centre, etc.) is less than 1 km.

Payment can be made

• online atmypay.provincia.tn.it: select the organisation “Autonomous Province of Trento”; enter the “Payment Reference” (a unique code for each individual payment, shown on the last line of the PagoPA payment notice); finally, choose your preferred payment method;
• at bank branches, Sisal and Lottomatica outlets (tobacconists) or at other outlets and/or channels authorised to process PagoPA payments, by presenting the PagoPA payment notice.

A pass will be sent to the email address of the user or the pupil’s guardians; this must be printed (in colour or black and white) and cut out. It will be valid for free travel for the period from 1 September to 31 August of the relevant year, and may therefore be used not only on the service assigned for the authorised route, but also on all scheduled services, urban and inter-urban buses and trains within the province of Trento.
