How to obtain authorisation to work as a tourist guide in the Province of Trento.

Description

The tourist guide assists individual persons or groups of persons on journeys through the national territory or abroad, taking care of the implementation of the travel programme and providing significant elements and news of tourist interest on the areas of transit, outside the scope of the tourist guide's competence.

The exercise of the profession is subject to a licence, which is obtained by passing a special examination, called by resolution of the Provincial Council to be published in the Official Bulletin of the Region.

Restrictions

The requirements for the examination are established by a resolution of the Provincial Council that issues the call for applications and must be met on the date of the deadline for submitting the application.

Italian and European citizens meeting the requirements set out in the Provincial Council Resolution announcing the call.

Special cases

The following are not required to obtain a licence

a) whoever performs non-professionally and without remuneration the activities of accompanying tourists exclusively in favour of members or members of associations and organisations operating on a non-profit-making basis with recreational, cultural, religious or social purposes, of which he/she is a member, in compliance with the provincial regulations on travel and tourism agencies

b) who performs as an employee of a travel and tourism agency reception and accompaniment activities to and from airports, departure and arrival stations of collective means of transport

c) whoever performs the activities referred to in this Law on the payroll of public administrations on an employment basis, if such activities are performed directly in favour of the same administrations

d) technical directors of travel and tourism agencies when they occasionally carry out activities of accompanying clients of the agency within the provincial territory

e) those who, within the framework of the provincial museum institutions and on behalf of the same or of the provincial services that report to the department responsible for culture, carry out activities aimed at promoting education to the cultural heritage through educational initiatives based on cultural projects or specific thematic in-depth studies planned and elaborated by the museum institutions or provincial services themselves.

Timeframes and deadlines

1) Announcement of the Notice of Qualifying Examination by resolution of the Provincial Council

2) Constitution of the Examination Board by appointment of the Provincial Council, composed of the head of the provincial structure responsible for tourism, who shall preside over the Board, an expert in tourist geography, communications and transport, an expert in tourist legislation and organisation, an expert in health education and health risks connected with stays in countries at risk, and an expert in the professional activity of tourist guide.

3) Licensing examination consisting of:

  • a written test, to be written in Italian, on the following subjects Italian, European and non-European tourist geography; regulations governing communications and transport in Italy and in European and non-European countries; regulations governing the organisation, intermediation and sale of tourist packages in the Province of Trento; tourist organisation in the Province of Trento; Community, national and provincial regulations governing the exercise of the profession of tourist guide, tasks of the tourist guide including tax regulations; knowledge of elementary notions of preventive medicine and health education, with particular regard to infectious and epidemic diseases in countries at risk
  • anoral test consisting of an interview on the subjects of the written test; a conversation in one or more foreign languages chosen by the candidate from among those indicated in the decision of the Provincial Council announcing the competition. Candidates in possession of the corresponding language certification recognised by the "Common European framework of reference for languages" classification system of the Council of Europe, level C1, issued by ALTE (Association of language testers of Europe) examiners, are exempt from taking the oral test;

4) Publication of the results of the examinations with indication of the subjects who successfully passed the tests;

5) Issue of the Diploma of qualification to the profession of Tour Guide;

6) Entry in theList of Tourist Escorts
