Definitive adoption in 2023, the Stelvio National Park Plan and Regulations began their drafting process already in 2017.

Park Plan
The Stelvio National Park Plan - Trentino was preliminarily adopted in 2019 (Resolution of the Provincial Council no. 895 of 14 June 2019, which revoked the previous Resolution no. 1845 of 5 October 2018, see below).
Pursuant to Article 44 septies of Provincial Law no. 11/2007, on 18 June 2019 the Park Plan, preliminarily adopted, was published on the Province's institutional website and deposited at the Province's headquarters at the disposal of the public and interested parties for a period of sixty days from the same date. Furthermore, the notice of deposit was published in the local daily newspapers as well as on the notice board of the Comunità della Valle di Sole and of the municipalities of Peio, Rabbi and Pellizzano.
During 2021, with Provincial Law no. 18/2021, amendments were made to Articles 44 sexies, octies, novies, undecies and 114 ter of Provincial Law no. 11/2007, with the aim of harmonising the provincial regulation with the aims and principles of the State regulation on the planning of nature parks.
With Deliberation of the Provincial Council no. 339 of 11 March 2022, the following documents, amended according to the new contents of Article 44 sexies of the aforementioned Provincial Law no. 11/2007 and corresponding to the digital documents that are an integral and substantial part of the aforementioned Deliberation, as listed in Annex 1) and referred to below, were preliminarily re-adopted.

The aforementioned resolution also corrected mere material errors contained in the A-Report. Similarly, the graphic composition of Table F - Framing Map on a scale of 1:75,000 was integrated with the elements relative to the provincial technical map as well as the technical map of the neighbouring territories of the Lombardy Region and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.
In order to allow the submission of written comments and proposals, the Park Plan documents subject to preliminary re-adoption, as listed above (with the exception of Annex A - Report subject to correction due to mere material errors and Annex F - 1:75000 scale map) were published on the Province's institutional website and deposited at the offices of the Sustainable Development and Protected Areas Service for a period of sixty days. The notice of deposit was published in a local newspaper and posted on the notice board of the Valle di Sole community and of the municipalities of Peio, Rabbi and Pellizzano.

Park Regulation
The Regulation, which was also definitively adopted in 2023, underwent a first adoption in 2020 (Provincial Council Resolution no. 1150 of 7 August 2020).
