Description
The long and complex process to arrive at the approval of the Stelvio National Park Plan and Regulations began already in 2017.
In 2017 the Coordination and Steering Committee approved the 'Guidelines for the preparation of the Park Plan and Regulations', to which the Lombardy Region and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano had to refer for the drafting of the two management instruments, in order to guarantee their unitary configuration.
In April 2017 (Resolution of the Provincial Council no. 600 of 13 April 2017) the Draft Plan and Regulations of the Stelvio National Park were approved and work began on the drafting of the planning instruments, conducted in close collaboration with the Lombardy Region and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, also through numerous meetings with technical groups from the three sectors and informal discussions with the technicians of the Ministry responsible for environmental matters.
Moreover, from May to July 2017 a series of public meetings were organised - in the three Trentino municipalities affected by the Park - precisely to inform citizens and stakeholders about the draft Plan and the initiatives underway for its elaboration.
Park Plan
The Park Plan is the instrument that regulates the management of the territory, defines the public and private use of the land, constraints, accessibility to the territory, guidelines and criteria for the enhancement and protection of flora and fauna.
The Stelvio National Park Plan, built also with the support of the local communities, is the result of joint work to implement the Guidelines approved by the Coordination and Steering Committee between the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano, the Lombardy Region, the Park Municipalities, the Ministry of the Environment, Ispra and environmental associations.
Afteritspreliminary adoption in 2019, the Park Plan was finally adoptedby the Provincial Council in 2023 (resolution 1202 of 07 July 2023, see below).

Regulation
The provisions contained in the Regulations aim to
- conserve and enhance the Park's biodiversity, natural, landscape, anthropological, historical and cultural heritage;
- guaranteeing the defence and reconstruction of natural, hydraulic and hydrogeological balances;
- promote the sustainable use of resources, scientific research and environmental education;
- foster integration between conservation and sustainable development.
After itspreliminary adoption in 2020, the Park Regulations were finally adopted by the Provincial Council in 2023 (resolution 1202 of 07 July 2023, see below).
