Description
The Covid-19 highlighted how strategic the ICT sector is for Trentino, particularly if we consider the penalties linked to the orography of the territory and low population density, which significantly raise the break even for private investments. It is therefore necessary to strengthen digital infrastructures (and in particular ultra-broadband networks for citizens, businesses and public administrations), together with the development of new services and systems capable of exploiting such infrastructures.
With this in mind, the ERDF Programme envisages the allocation of resources to the specific objective:"strengthening digital connectivity through the enhancement of the backbone and fibre optic distribution network, for a better connection of some of the most peripheral areas of Trentino".
Starting from what has already been done to equip the provincial territory with a backbone network, the operation supports the advancement and upgrading of Trentino's fixed and mobile communication telematic infrastructure system, in line with the Digital Compass strategy. In particular, the interventions to be carried out under the operation will concern the extension of the fibre optic network to the most peripheral areas of Trentino which are not covered either by the plans already in place or by the interventions that can be activated through recourse to the relevant mission of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan(Mission 1: Digitalization, Innovation, Competitiveness, Culture).
Since the operation follows a logic of integration and completion of the plans in place and the initiatives supported by the NRP, the programming of the interventions will take place in progressive phases, targeting the housing units of the peripheral geographical areas whose coverage is not guaranteed by the other financing instruments.
After an initial reconnaissance of the geographical areas without "coverage" and of the initiatives outside the Programme, the design and subsequent contracting phase of an initial block of interventions is underway. In 2024, the reconnaissance will be updated and the remaining programming will be defined.
