From FEM students a proposal for two Natura 2000 areas in Valsugana

Three school years of activities with outings, research, in-depth studies, and data processing led the students, supervised by teachers and two experts, to propose a real management plan for the Natura 2000 area 'Pizé' and the local 'Barucchelli' reserve, located near Lake Levico.

Description

It is quite a job that has been done on the Pizè and Barucchelli reserves by the students of the current fifth A and B classes of the 'Environment and Territory Management' articulation of the Education and Training Centre of the Edmund Mach Foundation.

Three school years of activities with outings, research, in-depth studies and data processing have led the students, supervised by teachers Cinzia Roat, Stefano Eccel and Tommaso Comper and experts Maurizio Odasso and Franco Frisanco, to propose a real management plan for the Natura 2000 area "Pizé" and the local "Barucchelli" reserve, located near Lake Levico.

On the morning of Wednesday, 7 February, the students presented what they had done to the administrators of the area involved (Levico Terme, Pergine Valsugana and Tenna), stakeholders and other FEM students.

It was a very articulated work that analysed the various habitats present: from the lake to the reed thicket, from the Vignola stream to the alder grove, from the oak-harvest to the locust grove, ending with the rich meadow and the agricultural context, without forgetting the problems linked to anthropisation.
The conclusions that the students arrived at are a series of concrete proposals that touch on the redevelopment of the Vignola stream and the banks of the lake, the increase in wetlands, interventions in forest areas and clearings, structures to enhance their use and teaching, the management of allochthonous species, the valorisation of small local agricultural products and the recovery of marginal uncultivated areas.
The hope is that the document produced will soon be followed by the implementation of some of the concrete interventions proposed by the students.
