Description

CS4Nature is a new programme of initiatives promoted by the Sustainable Development and Protected Areas Service of the Province of Trento, with the support of MUSE and the collaboration of Parks, Networks of Reserves and the Fondazione Museo Civico di Rovereto.

The aim is to encourage the use of citizen science for the collection of information useful for the knowledge and conservation of the species of the Natura 2000 Network.

What is citizen science?
It is a particular approach to research in which citizens are involved in scientific studies. Citizen science is an important tool for bringing science and society closer together and making people more aware of the reality around them.

The course - the first in a new series - aims to offer an introduction to the invertebrate species of greatest conservation interest for the province. Participants will be provided with notions of their ecology and how to recognise them, as well as guidance on how to contribute to data collection.

The course, which will focus on dragonflies, will be divided into 2 meetings as follows:

  • 1st THEORETICAL meeting - Friday 12 July, from 17.00 to 19.00: presentation of the target species, hints on ecology and suggestions for identification. The lesson will be delivered in a hybrid mode: in presence, at MUSE, and online, through the link shared with the participants.
  • 2nd PRACTICAL meeting, dedicated to the observation of species and how to collect data. The outing will take place the following day, Saturday 13 July, from 10 am to 12 noon, at the Torbiera di Fiavè Provincial Nature Reserve.

Participation in the course, organised in collaboration with the University of Eastern Piedmont, is free of charge and does not require previous knowledge or specific skills, but for organisational reasons registration is required through the form at link no later than Tuesday 9 July 2024.
