Description
The accelerometer network currently consists of ten measuring stations equipped with three-dimensional accelerometer sensors. The purpose of these stations is to record ground shaking during earthquakes and transmit the data obtained in real time. In fact, the main purpose of the accelerometer network is to record ground acceleration levels during earthquakes with epicentre in Trentino or adjacent regions. These measurements therefore make it possible to measure the level of acceleration to which buildings and infrastructures in the area are subjected.
Since 2013, thanks also to a collaboration with theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the data recorded by the Trentino accelerometer network are shared and processed according to the highest international standards. Furthermore, the recordings made by the Trentino accelerometer network are used to compile the so-called shaking maps ( ShakeMap project), which represent the areal distribution of ground shaking levels caused by the earthquake.
