Description

This was the first meeting of the"Glacier Days", a cycle of in-depth discussions on glaciers and high altitude promoted by the Cabina di regia delle aree protette e dei ghiacciai (steering committee for protected areas and glaciers) and organised by the Trentino Parks network.
This first event, entitled"Glaciers and climate change: environment, mountains, safety", was held in Cogolo di Peio, in the Stelvio National Park, on 13 September 2022.

Starting from the physical elements that make up the glacial and periglacial environment and their evolution also due to the climate, the first day dealt with the topics of environmental changes of glaciers and permafrost and their monitoring.

The necessary introduction was provided by the Provincial Climate Change Coordination and Action Table, which framed the day in relation to the context of the evolution of resources as well as the work programme on climate change, approved by the Provincial Council in 2021.

The interventions concerned the analysis and assessment of physical resources and their evolution, with particular reference to the permafrost monitoring network, activated by the Autonomous Province with the collaboration of the University of Padua.
