General information
The key elements proposed for theapproach to German and English in directly or indirectly managed public nurseries and pre-schools in the territory of the Autonomous Province of Trento are as follows:
- Thenatural approach, to bring children closer to 'other' languages in the natural and everyday contexts of life, focusing in particular on playful aspects and spontaneous and emotionally dense relationships, which facilitate and support learning;
- Thecultural approach, to recognise the relevance of the culturally connoted elements that each language brings with it. For the children, therefore, encountering the "other language" also means encountering an "other culture" of which the ISA (language approach provider) becomes the "bearer";
- Theintegrated approach, to identify language approach as an integral part of the design of the school or nursery in which the action takes place. The children experience, in the school or nursery context, situations supported by a different language code but integrated into the overall learning experience that the school or nursery offers.
Goals
Language is proposed as an experience to be lived in natural and spontaneous contexts. This makes it possible to create an idea of linguistic plurality in the children's minds and to recognise their role as active protagonists within the learning process, since it is they themselves who seek out and build spontaneous relationships with an 'other' language and culture.
The project aims to make children aware of the presence of other peoples' languages and cultures by stimulating divergent thinking and developing in them intercultural awareness, and consequently, respect for diversity and integration.
