InnoForESt

Smart information, governance and business innovations for sustainable supply and payment mechanisms for forest ecosystem services

Smart information, governance and business innovations for sustainable supply and payment mechanisms for forest ecosystem services

General information

The InnoForESt project analyses European forest ecosystems, their management, business models and governance approaches from a socio-economic and technical perspective. Furthermore, the project develops innovative and integrated solutions for the provision and financing of forest ecosystem services (e.g. business models). PAT, as part of the Steering Committee (body supervising project activities), ensures the integration of the various issues addressed and verifies the quality of the results achieved before they are presented to the European Commission; as part of the "case study Coordination Team" (made up of representatives of the six study territories), it supports the University of Trento in the collection of data and in the interpretation of one of the study territories (consisting of the forest and mountain territory located around the Pale di San Martino mountain group) and organises meetings with the various stakeholders in order to share objectives and strategic lines. In the study area there are two areas managed with two different governance models (case studies), represented - in brief - by those in Trentino on the one hand and Veneto on the other.

Goals

With these two case studies, the project aims to:

- analyse similar areas but with different forms of governance and intensity of forest and land management;

- map ecosystem services (e.g. land protection, biodiversity conservation, cultural services and tourism)

- quantifying the value of ecosystem services to identify land management policies and strategies;

- create a European exchange platform with the models investigated within the partnership.
