General information
The project intends to implement actions that may lead to the creation of a Lower Emission Corridor (LEC) of traffic pollution for the motorway section of the A22 in the Trentino Alto Adige Region and in perspective for the entire Alpine corridor from Kufstein to Affi.
The collaboration between the Province of Trento, the Province of Bolzano and the A22 stems from the need to reduce emissions produced by motorway transit by aiming for the best compromise between environmental benefits, the level of service provided by the road infrastructure and the acceptance of restrictive measures by road users.
The collaboration will allow the experimentation of certain practices such as the dynamic reduction of maximum speed, the regulation of traffic and congestion situations also through the use of the dynamic lane, the integrated management of flows in correspondence of urban agglomerations (Rovereto, Trento, Bolzano) and the simultaneous monitoring of pollutants to assess their effectiveness.
Added values of the project are the use of forecasting systems (meteorology, atmospheric pollution, vehicle flow forecasting) able to allow a proactive use of the systems and the evaluation of the applicability of these strategies for future replicability both on the entire Brenner Corridor and on other sections of the Italian and European motorway infrastructure.
Goals
The main objective of the project is the experimental implementation of dynamic motorway traffic management systems for the protection of air quality, the reduction of climate-changing gas emissions and noise protection within certain pilot sections (LEZ - Low Emission Zones).
