Responsibilities and functions
The resource of water is a distinctive element of the Valle di Sole: in fact, the presence of many watercourses enhances the environmental quality of the sites, making the landscape context very evocative and unique in the Alpine panorama. In recent years, the Noce River has been increasingly transformed from a landscape and naturalistic element into a major economic factor: the Noce River was ranked 9th among the best rivers in the world for rafting by 'National Geographic' magazine.
The valorisation of the Valle di Sole territory, understood as a whole of river, streams, protected areas and landscape, proves to be strategic to the strengthening of the tourist offer, with particular reference to a user segment that is increasingly attentive to nature, sustainability and landscape.
The population of the valley has matured a particular environmental sensitivity, as well as an awareness of the value of the water resource as an opportunity to strengthen the identity of the territory: in fact, it is shared that the valorisation of the territorial context of the Valle di Sole and of the river Noce with its natural heritage can represent an opportunity for sustainable development and employment for the new generations.
The Alto Noce River Park is a management tool for the protected areas and river areas of the Noce River in Val di Sole and its tributaries: Vermigliana, Rabbies and Meledrio. It encompasses the areas of greatest naturalistic value of the Noce River in Val di Sole: the Natura 2000 Network Sites (Torbiera del Tonale, Ontaneta di Croviana-Rio Plaucesa and Monte di Arnago), the Local Reserves and the course of the Noce River, connected by a series of areas that function as 'ecological corridors'.
The aim of the River Park is to protect and enhance the territory, the historical and natural heritage of the Alto Noce stream by developing sustainable economic activities for the local communities and promoting an environmental culture in all age groups.
