Responsibilities and functions
The Rete di Riserve Fiume Brenta (Brenta River Network of Reserves) is a large active protection and preservation area of almost 800 hectares, which includes the Brenta River valley with numerous watercourses and wetlands of naturalistic and landscape value and protected sites.
The area of protected areas within the Brenta River Reserve Network totals 780 hectares, and includes
- 17 SAC-Special Areas of Conservation, two of which ("Inghiaie" in Levico Terme and "Fontanazzo" in Grigno) are also SPA-Special Protection Areas
- 15 'Local Reserves' (some coinciding with or part of SACs).
Water is certainly the theme that characterises the Network, with the lakes of the Alta Valsugana, the course of the river Brenta, its numerous tributaries and the many small or large wetlands located between Pergine and Grigno.
The agreement that led to the establishment of the Brenta River Reserve Network in 2018 provides for integrated actions of conservation, enhancement, sustainable use of the territory by developing activities compatible with it, with support for quality agricultural production, tourism and sustainable mobility.
The Network of Reserves was activated in 2018 with the adhesion of 14 municipalities, the Valsugana and Tesino (lead partner of the Network) and Alta Valsugana and Bernstol Valley Communities and the BIM Brenta Consortium. The entry of two new Municipalities in 2023 brought the Network to be now composed of the following 16 Municipalities: Altopiano della Vigolana, Borgo Valsugana, Calceranica al Lago, Caldonazzo, Castel Ivano, Castelnuovo, Grigno, Levico Terme, Novaledo, Ospedaletto, Pergine Valsugana, Roncegno Terme, Ronchi Valsugana, Tenna, Torcegno and Vignola Falesina.
