Yesterday evening, at the headquarters of the Valsugana and Tesino Community in Borgo Valsugana, the provincial councillor for forestry, hunting and fishing Roberto Failoni met with the body's president Claudio Ceppinati and the territory's mayors. The meeting was also attended, among others, by the director general of the Civil Protection, Forestry and Fauna Department Stefano Fait, the director of the Fauna Service Alessandro Brugnoli and the coordinator of the large carnivores sector Claudio Groff. The delicate issue of the presence of wolves was at the centre of the discussion. "We had a frank and direct dialogue with the administrators, based on the desire to manage the presence of wolves in Eastern Valsugana with ever greater attention and sensitivity. Our objective is to apply all the necessary measures for the protection of public safety and the support of zootechnical activity, which is fundamental for the care and protection of our Trentino region," were the words of the councillor, who strongly urged the mayors to urge breeders and in particular hobbyists to equip themselves with effective prevention tools, especially the electrified fences made available free of charge. "37% of the predations by wolves in Trentino in 2025 concerned the Bassa Valsugana, a third of the provincial total. But in 70% of cases there were no protection measures for these animals. Only through the correct and constant use of these measures will it be possible to contain the damage and improve coexistence between local communities and wildlife," added Failoni, who proposed the organisation of training and informative events with breeders and the population.
