The discovery of a young golden jackal, which died following a road accident the day before yesterday in the Arco area in the Maza locality, has allowed the Fauna Service of the Autonomous Province of Trento to confirm the presence of a new breeding nucleus in the area. In fact, the species tends to live in a restricted area, with a radius of just a few kilometres.
This brings the total number of known family groups in Trentino to five. The species, absent until a few years ago, has shown significant expansion in recent years. Since the first confirmed reproduction in 2020, the growth trend has remained constant. Four breeding nuclei were confirmed in 2024: one in the Bleggio/Lomaso area, one between Cavalese and Tesero, one in the municipality of Dro and one in San Lorenzo Dorsino.
